Blackwall Tunnel

Project background

A London Highway Alliance Contract (LoHAC) project on behalf of KIER (LoHAC South Area) for the main client, Transport for London (TfL).

The works are part of the client’s ongoing commitment to public safety as well as maintaining the structural integrity of Blackwall Tunnel, a key sub-surface transportation link across the River Thames in London.

Project description

Damjul Ltd Completed Site Investigations (i.e. undertook Visual and Delamination Surveys) and subsequent reporting of the Vent Shafts. The purpose of the investigations is to establish structural integrity checks in respect of the Headwall and Side Walls at carriageway level.

Investigation findings suggest the need for consideration of a temporary make safe approach, which warranted a detailed design carrying out prior to the remedial measures being implemented on site.

Working with the client we produced a detailed design for the repairs, which primarily entailed the use of a Steel Wire Mesh (Hot-Dip Galvanised) Debris Netting affixed on to a Unistrut Channel Support system mounted directly on the Headwalls of all 4 No. Vent Shafts.

Services Provided

Project Management, Structures Inspections & Delamination Surveys, Technical Reporting, Preliminary & Detailed Design, Structural Alterations, Supervision and Handover.
